How do I view an image on the LCD screen before I take a picture on my Nikon D40X?

I am new to the digital world of photography. In addition to the Slr Camera I also own a point and shoot digital camera. On my point and shoot camera I am able to view my shot on the LCD screen BEFORE I actually take the picture. But I am not able to do so on my Digital Slr camera. Is my Nikon D40X broken?

You are shooting with the “big boys” now. You are going to 1) have to look through the view finder as illustrated on page 16 of your users manual and start counting on your photographic skills instead of letting the camera do all the deciding for you.

Just think how blurred your shots would be if you had to hand hold your over 2 pound camera at arms length to compose a shot and there would be NO way to use selective focus at all.

I am surprised that you did not notice that the D40x does NOT have the live view feature if that is what you really want …. A Dslr with “training wheels”
